Twitter to pay content creators for videos

Jack Dorsey CEO Twitter

On Tuesday Twitter extended the video ad program it opened a year ago for publishers to individual video creators that want to make money from their videos on Twitter like they do on YouTube.

Twitter will also allow advertisements that precede the streaming of videos uploaded by individual users, the company said in a blog post on Tuesday.

High-profile Vine stars have been asking for a revenue split for some time, which has caused a split for some with the company, quite a few who have left for YouTube so they can get more revenue.

The service was already paying big entities like the National Football League, but this deal is aimed at YouTube-style creators.

Twitter to share ad revenue on videos by US individual users was posted in Sci-Tech of TheNews International - https://www.thenews.com.pk on August 30, 2016 and was last updated on August 30, 2016. But while YouTube and Facebook offer creators 55% of the revenue - and in Facebook's case, not necessarily even that much - Twitter will give creators 70% of the ad revenue and keep the remaining 30% for itself, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.

Twitter is rolling out a new way for content creators to monetize their videos and work across the platform. Twitter's terms for individual video creators will be the same as those for its Amplify partners, the website reported. That's particularly true when it comes to live video and Periscope, though this program doesn't apply to those.

The company also announced desktop and mobile updates through its Media Studio and Twitter Engage app, i.e. a unified media library of videos, GIFs and images, tweet scheduling and planning ability and multi-account support.

While Twitter is dangling a more favorable revenue percentage, it may not end up being more money for creators. However, as the growth of an already-huge social network like Twitter begins to slow, keeping existing users interested in using the platform becomes a main concern.
