Israel increases security after wave of knife attacks hits Hebron and Jerusalem

Pakistan raises Kashmir issue at NAM summit

The Palestinian Health Ministry identified the Palestinian as 16-year-old Issa Tarayreh of the village of Bani Naim.

On Monday, Israeli forces killed two Palestinian assailants in the West Bank and two Israeli police officers were stabbed near the Old City of Jerusalem.

Stabbing attacks by Palestinians have been on the rise since previous year when tensions between Israel and residents in the occupied lands escalated after an Israeli security operation in Jerusalem. Jewish security officials are especially careful as they fear of an increase in attacks in the West Bank and East Jerusalem ahead of the Jewish High Holy Days in October: Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur and Sukkot. An Israeli soldier was wounded in a stabbing attack on the same day, which also resulted in the death of the assailant.

Israeli security forces stand at the scene where a Palestinian attempted to stab an Israeli soldier at the entrance to the West Bank village of Bani Na'im, near Hebron September 20, 2016.

On Saturday, another Palestinian was shot and killed after stabbing an Israeli soldier in Hebron.

Over the weekend, four Palestinians, one of whom held Jordanian citizenship, were shot dead during assaults on Israelis, according to Israeli authorities.

On Monday evening, a Palestinian man was subdued and arrested after attempting to stab soldiers in a Hebron neighborhood. The IDF Spokesperson's Unit said troops shot and killed the assailant, and there were no Israeli casualties.

Palestinians, many acting alone and with rudimentary weapons, have killed at least 33 Israelis and two visiting Americans in the attacks.

Two Palestinians from Bani Naim on Friday carried out a auto ramming attack on soldiers outside of Kiryat Arba, leading to the death of one of them.

However, Palestinians have accused Israel of often using excessive force, claiming that some of those killed had no intention of attacking and posed no threat.
