No Giles for a while? For title contender Duke, no problem

Harry Giles is seen at the Jordan Brand Classic on Friday

A 6-11 forward from Winston-Salem who was considered the top prospect in the 2016 recruiting class, Giles has twice undergone reconstructive surgery to fix torn ACLs.

Duke freshman Harry Giles, ESPN's top-ranked player in this year's recruiting class, underwent arthropscopic surgery on his left knee Monday, the school announced.

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said in a released statement that the process was, "the right step for Harry at the moment as it will help him be 100 percent going forward".

One example, Krzyzewski offered, is when Duke practices 5-on-5 with one side in white jerseys and the other in blue.

Right before his sophomore year of high school, Giles tore the ACL and MCL in his left knee, the same knee that he had surgery on on Monday. Giles led the USA Basketball junior national team to the FIBA U-17 World Championship in 2014 and followed up by doing the same - while still 17 - at the FIBA U-19 World Championship in 2015.

Duke fans are understandably excited for this season. The typical recovery time is six weeks, and Duke begins the season November 11 against Marist. Those Blue Devils essentially went with a six-man rotation, and their lack of depth helped lead to losses to Louisville, Notre Dame and, ultimately, OR in the West Regional semifinals.

That said, Rick Pitino has said a couple of times lately that he thinks this Duke team has the potential to be special.

The Blue Devils themselves feel that way, too.

They can use the 6-11 Bolden and the 6-10 DeLaurier inside. He could be ready to go by the beginning of the season, but drafting him is significantly risky.

You can hear the falls before you even see them! "It'll take on different looks".
