Police locate suspect in shooting of BC Mountie

Officer hurt near Golden

Police say they're looking for 40-year-old Sheldon Kyle Thunderblanket, who is considered armed and unsafe.

The RCMP has revealed the suspect is also wanted in connection with a murder and attempted murder committed in Saskatchewan over the weekend.

RCMP spokesman Staff Sgt. Rob Vermeulen says in a news release that the officer stopped a vehicle Tuesday in connection with a possible theft and the suspect failed to comply with police direction.

The intensive police search continues this morning in the Revelstoke ara. One was pronounced dead at the scene and another was taken to hospital with what RCMP described as serious injuries.

He says another vehicle was allegedly stolen at gunpoint shortly after.

Thunderblanket is suspected of breaking into his ex-girlfriend's home, gunning her down and leaving her sister badly wounded on the Little Pine First Nation in Saskatchewan. Police are deploying multiple resources including emergency response teams, RCMP aircraft, police dogs and more. Even then, travellers had to wait for hours while police searched every vehicle while they passed check stops set up on the highway.

In Revelstoke, people were not allowed to leave the city.

UPDATE (6 a.m.): BC RCMP has confirmed a police officer was shot during a traffic stop near Golden on Tuesday. Two adults were found injured in the residence when police arrived.

Police searched for the suspect through the night but were unable to locate him. "I'm quite critical of the fact that no one's came out door-to-door to tell us what's going on".

Police say traffic is getting through on the Trans Canada Highway both six kilometres east of Revelstoke and near Donald, with a single lane open to alternating traffic in each location.
