Airstrikes hit rebel-held neighborhoods of Syria's Aleppo

Airstrikes hit rebel-held neighborhoods of Syria's Aleppo

The meetings come after Syria was plunged into some of the worst violence it has seen, as government forces backed by Russian airpower push an assault on rebel-held eastern Aleppo.

Putin on Wednesday accused the US presidential candidates of using anti-Russian rhetoric to bolster their support in next month's election, a decision which is "poisoning" relations between the two countries.

The US military did not dispute the strike but characterized it as "unintentional" and relayed its "regret" to Syria through Russian Federation, saying the intended target had been ISIS.

"What we've been seeing recently during the last few weeks, and maybe few months, is something like more than Cold War", Assad said.

"I don't know if that corresponds to the interests of European countries or not".

Assad added that Turkey's actions in Syria constituted an "invasion, against global law, against the morals, against the sovereignty of Syria".

Syrian and Russian warplanes carried out fresh strikes on rebel-held districts of Aleppo early Thursday, after an intense bombardment over the previous two days killed at least 71 civilians, a monitor said. The Russian government and Syrian regime blamed their foes for breaking the ceasefire. The West has accused Moscow and Damascus of committing potential war crimes in the operations against eastern Aleppo.

The east has been held by the rebels since 2012. "It is never too late to make peace", he said. "We couldn't accept all the injured at the same time", Modar Sheikho, an emergency nurse in Fardous, told Al Jazeera.

Some top officials argue the United States must act more forcefully in Syria or risk losing what influence it still has over moderate rebels and its Arab, Kurdish and Turkish allies in the fight against Islamic State, the officials told Reuters.

This, in turn, might deter them from migrating to Islamist groups such as the Nusra Front, which the United States regards as Syria's al Qaeda branch.

United States Secretary of State John Kerry will discuss ways to resolve the Syria crisis at a meeting with counterparts from "key regional partners" in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Saturday.

And the White House said on Tuesday it would consider a variety of responses to the alleged hacks.

The death toll this week according to rescue workers topped 154, although the figures could not be independently verified. "Her view is that Hillary is the most important person on the planet, that America is an exceptional country, as Barack Obama said", reported Reuters.

New Zealand, one of the 10 non-permanent Security Council members, on Wednesday (Oct 12) presented a draft resolution demanding an end to air attacks in Syria's battleground city of Aleppo.

According to the Observatory, over than 20 airstrikes overnight and into Thursday in eastern Aleppo killed seven people while shelling killed four.
