Patrice Evra: French full-back joins Marseille from Juventus

Highlight Story

"Juventus Football Club can today confirm the depature of Patrice Evra, the French full-back joining Olympique Marseille after two-and-a-half years of magnificent service in Turin", the club said on its official website.

The former Manchester United left-back has been brought in to add experience a defence that conceded three times against Lyon in Ligue 1 last Sunday.

Evra is the club's second signing of the winter transfer window after the arrival of highly rated young midfielder Morgan Sanson from Montpellier on a long-term deal.

Patrice Evra admits that Dimitri Payet would be a good signing for Marseille, but insisted that he didn't join the Ligue 1 outfit on the basis of any such promises from the hierarchy.

Evra has played 81 times for France's national team since his debut in 2004.

Evra is edging toward the end of his career, and his dwindling playing time at Juve wasn't a surprise, considering the depth and quality in manager Massimiliano Allegri's squad.

"But we talked and we came to this decision".

He is also a five-time Premier League victor and had two championship medals with Juventus in Serie A.

"Many clubs were interested, but as soon as I heard that Marseille were making an offer, I did not hesitate", said Evra.
