Payet secures Marseille return in £25m deal

West Ham have already begun the painful process of moving on from Payet, in whom the club and its supporters had invested so much both in a financial and personal sense.

After a month-long saga, the club has finally chose to sell the French midfielder to Marseille.

There appears to be no way back at West Ham for rebel midfielder Dimitri Payet after his vehicle was vandalised outside his home.

It is reported that Payet paid back his £500,000 January salary before being allowed to return to Marseille and has also taken a wage cut. Slaven Bilic and I had conversations face to face.

At the time of his transfer to West Ham, he said he was unhappy to be sold and wanted to stay at Marseille.

He could play away to Metz in the French league on Friday night.

Payet, 29, has scored eight goals in 32 games for France, featuring in the Euro 2016 final which they lost to Portugal.

West Ham have announced that fans can trade in their shirts with Payet's name on the back and get a new one for a discounted £25.

Payet joined the Hammers from the Ligue 1 side in June 2015, setting the Premier League alight during his first season in England.
