Harrison Ford has jet run-in at California airport

Harrison Ford nearly crashed his single engine plane Husky into a Boeing 747 on Monday

While the FAA has not confirmed Ford's involvement, NBC News outed the 74-year-old actor as the pilot involved who landed his plane on a taxiway that runs parallel to the runway, an event that is now under investigation.

As he was landing, his plane passed over a passenger plane - an American Airlines 737 - that had 116 people on board. In an air traffic control recording, Ford is heard asking, "Was that airliner meant to be underneath me?"

The FAA told NBC News Ford was given proper landing instructions to land on runway 20-L at John Wayne, but aimed for a taxiway instead.

The commercial flight, which was bound for Dallas, safely left the airport shortly after the incident. Instead, his single-engine Aviat Husky landed on a taxiway that sits parallel to the runway and flew above a Boeing 737 on the ground. "The FAA is investigating this incident, however the pilot's name was withheld", Ian Gregor, Public Affairs Manager for the FAA Southwest division stated.

He has been involved in a series of crashes and near-misses over the years. NBC noted he's even been inducted as a Living Legend of Aviation. However, Ford actually landed on a taxiway, flying over a passenger plane for an unknown amount of time.

The actor crash-landed a helicopter in Ventura County during a lesson in 1999, NBC News reported. And in 2000, Ford's six-seater Beechcraft Bonanza scraped the runway during an emergency landing at Nebraska's Lincoln Municipal Airport. John Wayne Airport officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
