Seahawks won't lose National Football League draft pick for not reporting Richard Sherman's injury

The Seahawks reportedly received a warning for violating the injury-reporting policy

The Seattle Seahawks will receive no formal penalty for failing to report a meniscus injury for star cornerback Richard Sherman before a playoff game this year, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

In January, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Sherman had played the second half of the season while carrying an MCL injury-a fact the team hadn't announced until after its loss to the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Divisional Round-per ESPN.com's Sheil Kapadia.

The report states the violation was determined to be a result of a misinterpretation of the rules, which explains the team getting away with just a warning. The NFL also went along with Seattle's argument that when Sherman missed practice for what were listed as non-injury-related reasons he was getting a veteran's rest day.

Indeed, Sherman didn't miss a game nor did he miss any meaningful snaps because of an injury.

That the National Football League will give Seattle only a warning means the Seahawks will still lose the fifth-round pick for the OTA violation, but nothing more. He did not say specifically when Sherman suffered the injury (and Sherman never mentioned it during the season, as well).

It's a league rule for teams to disclose all injuries as a way of being clear and transparent with the league and other teams.

"I'm feeling like I screwed that up with not telling you that", Carroll told reporters.

"I didn't realize that we hadn't even revealed it", Carroll added.
