Trump says US-Russia relations may be at "all-time low"

CNN uses anonymous source to push Syria Russia 'chemical attack' conspiracy

Not long before Trump spoke in Washington, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson struck a similar tone after an nearly two-hour meeting with Putin, saying the two countries had reached a "low point" in relations.

The toxic gas attack on April 4 prompted the United States to launch missile strikes on a Syrian air base and widened a rift between the U.S. and Russian Federation.

The Trump administration on Tuesday said it had collected intelligence that purportedly proved Syrian forces had carried out the deadly chemical weapons attack in the northern Idlib province that led to the USA missile strike. The move was widely praised by USA allies but drew criticism from Syria's chief global partners, Russian Federation and Iran.

After Tillerson spent three hours talking with Lavrov and nearly two hours at the Kremlin with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Lavrov, sitting three feet from Tillerson, aired a long list of grievances with the United States, some dating back many years.

Earlier in an interview broadcast on Wednesday before the meeting with Tillerson, Putin said that mutual trust between Russian Federation and the USA, especially on the military level, had eroded in the first few months of Trump's presidency.

The VIPS memo said that according to US Army contacts, a Syrian military plane blew up a chemical weapons depot held by Al-Qaeda, and the sarin gas that was released by the explosion traveled to a nearby town by a strong wind.

He named two conditions.

Tillerson reiterated the U.S. position that Assad must eventually relinquish power in Syria. The second condition was the United States conduct no additional strikes on government targets.

Haley said the U.S.is ready to do its part to bring about peace but was "looking for partners" who were ready to act. "I look forward to a very open, candid, frank exchange so that we can better define the U.S. -Russia relationship from this point forward".

"Right now we're not getting along with Russian Federation at all", Trump said at a White House press conference with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.

He and his officials dismissed USA evidence that Assad had carried out the attack, and then Putin added a bombshell prediction of his own: Unnamed forces were going to carry out more chemical weapons attacks and blame them on Assad.

But Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, referring to Iraq, said, "Experiments like that, which are built on an obsession with overthrowing dictators, totalitarian or authoritarian leaders, we have already seen. How do you know that?" he said.

Air Force Col. John Dorrian, the Baghdad-based spokesman for Operation Inherent Resolve, said Wednesday that the Pentagon would no longer discuss the deconfliction line because it has become political.

The embattled leader, whose country has been ravaged by six years of war, said his firepower had not been affected by the attack ordered by US President Donald Trump, but acknowledged further strikes were possible. U.S. -Russia relations were supposed to improve under the Trump administration.

Russian Federation has vetoed a Western-backed Security Council resolution that would have condemned the reported use of chemical weapons in a town in northern Syria and demanded a speedy investigation.

"People, not just in the West but across the Middle East and the world are speaking out against Assad's brutality", she said.

Still, Mr Tillerson sought to stress the positives from his meetings.

"After the summit [with Chinese President Xi Jinping], it became clear that Russian Federation was not playing a constructive role in the wake of the Syrian regime's attack", the official said. "We're not going into Syria", Mr. Trump said in the interview.
