North Korean official: 'Reckless' US creating situation for nuclear war

Noting Trump's recent military actions in Syria and Afghanistan, Pence said, "North Korea would do well not to test his resolve", or the us armed forces in the region.

North Korea's envoy to the United Nations said the regime was preparing for "any mode of war" triggered by potential USA military action, and said his country would respond to a missile or nuclear strike "in kind".

"North Korea would do well not to test his resolve or the strength of the armed forces of the United States in this region", Pence said.

"Just in the past two weeks, the world witnessed the strength and resolve of our new president in actions taken in Syria and Afghanistan", Mr Pence said.

It's similar this time around, as North Korea launches missiles and fires off increasingly incendiary threats, and as the United States responds with stark warnings and the strategic placement of an aircraft carrier.

On an unannounced visit to the border between South Korea and its northern neighbour on Monday, Mr Pence made comments suggesting the U.S. would go to extreme measures to force Pyongyang to end its nuclear weapons programme.

Observers have said North Korea may conduct a sixth nuclear test soon, with activity reported at nuclear facilities, according to the website 38 North.

North Korean special forces soldiers march and shout slogans during a military parade marking the 105th birth anniversary of country's founding father, Kim Il Sung in Pyongyang, North Korea April 15, 2017.

On Saturday, to mark the 105th anniversary of the birth of Kim Il Sung, founder of North Korea, the totalitarian nation staged a two-hour military parade meant to demonstrate its great strength to the world. He will aim to reassure allies in South Korea and Japan that the US will take appropriate steps to defend them against North Korean aggression. Lavrov noted that "if the US vice president meant that Washington could unilaterally use military force, then it is a risky road". Last week, Trump said he would not declare China a currency manipulator, pulling back from a campaign promise, as he looked for help from Beijing, which is the North's dominant trade partner.

Russian Federation today warned Washington against launching a unilateral strike on North Korea claiming the U.S. was on a "risky path". China reiterates its opposition to the deployment of a sophisticated USA anti-missile system in South Korea.

The visit came shortly after a failed North Korean missile launch that some claim may have been "thwarted by cyber attacks from the U.S.".

Pence's trip earlier Monday (April 17) to the Demilitarised Zone between the two Koreas - one of the most heavily fortified frontiers on the planet - underscored Washington's changing policy towards the isolated state.

While the era of strategic patience may be over, the Trump administration is clearly taking some kind of strategic steps.

Pence urged the worldwide community to join USA and regional demands for an end to the North's nuclear and ballistic missile programmes.

The visit carries a great deal of symbolism for the Vice President personally.

"We never beg for peace but we will take the toughest counteraction against the provocateurs in order to defend ourselves by powerful force of arms and keep to the road chosen by ourselves", Kim said. The airstrike was seen as an escalation in US involvement in Syria, as it was targeting the regime of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, who is suspected to have committed the attack.

Tensions have escalated over North Korean moves to accelerate its weapons development.

The BBC reported Han also said North Korea believed its nuclear weapons protect it from the threat of military action by the United States.

"We have a wide array of tools at disposal for the president should he choose to use them", the official said.
