Starbucks introduces color-shifting "Unicorn Frappuccino" for a limited time

Starbucks is bringing a dose of whimsy to its menu with a new springtime drink offering that promises to change colors and flavors with a single stir.

This isn't the first unicorn coffee drink on the market.

Starbucks also says in their announcement that this special drink actually changes colors as you stir it, as if it weren't Instagram-worthy enough already. Stripes and swirls of sour blue drizzle line the inside of the clear cup, giving the drink its two-tone appearance. but that's just the start of the magic.

The cold drink is made with pink powder blended into Frappuccino Crème, flavored with mango syrup and a layer of blue drizzle. In the meantime the flavor will make a transition from sweet, fruity to sour and tangy.

Available until April 23, we have a feeling this will be our first and last Unicorn Frappuccino.

Do you now understand why people are freaking out over the Unicorn Frappuccino, which debuts Wednesday?

"The elusive unicorn from medieval legend has been making a comeback", said Starbucks, suggesting some sort of online chumming.

It's topped with whipped cream and a healthy dusting of pink sugar and blue "sour powder". Known for its quirky blended drinks, the coffee shop takes the trend of shimmering unicorn-themed drinks to a new level. I do see pink and I do see purple, but they're close in shade and there's no "wow" moment where it looks like someone repainted the drink's colors.

KFOR's Lance West and Nikki Kay tried the magical drink Wednesday afternoon. While the drink has a certain visual - or at least 'grammable - appeal, the reviews of the actual taste include the phrases "horrible sour syrup" and "just like those tropical Skittles".

What is a Unicorn Frappuccino?

"The bright colors and flavor-ambiguous name will of course drive sales because experience hungry gen-Z-ers will want to be in the know", Kahn added.
