Neuer to miss rest of Bayer Munich's season

Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer says he is sad to be ruled out for the rest of the season, missing Bayern Munich's push for a fifth straight Bundesliga title.

Marcelo twice cleared off the line for Madrid and Jerome Boateng did the same for Bayern in a thrilling game, which was tilted in Madrid's favor by Arturo Vidal's dismissal for two yellow cards, the second of which was harsh.

Ronaldo was again subjected to boos from the demanding Bernabeu supporters despite scoring four times in the two-legged tie in a 6-3 aggregate win over the German champions.

As for Bayern, it marks another year of disappointment in Europe's elite competition.

And Vidal vented his fury after the match, per Marca: "This robbery can not happen in the Champions League, it was clearly noticeable and it starts to make you doubt [the game] a bit".

For now, at least, he'll get them.

"It's a special competition for Real Madrid", Ronaldo said. It was magnificent football, but unfortunately the refereeing decisions went against us. I know it can happen in football, but not so often at this level.

The 57-year-old added: "The referee probably wasn't up to the task".

Ultimately Bayern went toe-to-toe with the reigning European champions, a side turned into a winning machine by coach Zinedine Zidane, and came up only marginally short. The officials simply got it wrong.

Ancelotti wasn't the only one to express his frustration at Bayern's perceived injustice.

Ronaldo took advantage at not being flagged for offside as he controlled and fired low past Neuer to become the first man to reach a Champions League century.

Three days on and Bayern still feel aggrieved. The former Real Madrid manager started his speech talking about the referee: "You can't decide a semi-final spot like this".

Clearly, Tuesday's wounds still haven't healed.

Bayern's effort in taking the game to a 3-3 draw after two sets of 90 minutes was despite missing key players Mats Hummels and Robert Lewandowski from the first game.

The return fixtures will be played on May 9 and May 10.

"However, we did not let our heads drop and we pulled it off".
