Saudi Arabia's King Salman Optimistic About 'Historic' US Summit

President Donald Trump walks with Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Deputy Crown Prince and Minister of Defense of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia along the West Colonnade of the White House Tuesday

Trump leaves for his first worldwide trip on Friday with stops in Saudi Arabia, Israel, the Vatican, Belgium and Italy with the goals of reaffirming USA global leadership, building relationships with world leaders and spreading a message of unity among three of the world's major religions, McMaster said.

And since Trump will be in Riyadh on May 22, when he will hold a meeting with King Salman, to be followed by a meeting with the heads of state of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the US president will grasp the opportunity to take care of other business, such as signing some lucrative arms deals that can keep American arms factories, and thus American jobs, going.

Trump is also expected to meet separately with the Arab rulers of the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council.

Be Civil - It's OK to have a difference in opinion but there's no need to be a jerk.

USA public opinion of Saudi Arabia has never fully recovered since the September 11, 2001 attacks in which 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudi.

McMaster did not say the phrase "radical Islamic terror", in describing the speech, which Trump has prided himself over using.

He said that while on the trip Trump would visit key sites associated with Islam, Judaism and Christianity to stress "that we all have to be united and we have to be joined together with an agenda of tolerance and moderation".

Early this month, Trump said he would start a "truly historic gathering in Saudi Arabia with leaders from all across the Muslim world".

As concerns quickly grow over Trump's ability to keep classified materials secret just a day after news emerged he'd shared sensitive state secrets about ISIS with Russian diplomats in the Oval Office, the White House on Tuesday attempted to paint the commander-in-chief's upcoming trip as an opportunity to pivot. He will not be meeting with delegates from Iran or Syria.

Two key questions are whether Trump will voice support for a two-state solution and if he will take steps toward his promise of moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem.

In Israel, Trump is meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and will visit the Vad Yashem memorial to the Holocaust.

Reuters previously reported that contracts for tens of billions of dollars in arms sales to Saudi Arabia were being pushed through Washington prior to Trump's trip.

Saudi Arabia will be the first country Mr Trump will visit since his Inauguration.

After Jerusalem, Trump will head to the Vatican for an audience with Pope Francis.

"Our task is not to dictate to others how to live, but to build a coalition of friends and partners who share the goal of fighting terrorism and bringing safety, opportunity and stability to the war-ravaged Middle East", he said.
