Amid Trump's silence, Russian Federation creeps into first foreign trip

Amid Trump's silence, Russian Federation creeps into first foreign trip

US President Donald Trump has spent the last week working and negotiating with foreign leaders.

While Trump and his aides huddled on Air Force One on the flight to Saudi Arabia to iron out the final preparations for his first foreign trip, the headlines blared: "Trump Told Russians That Firing "Nut Job" Comey Eased Pressure", wrote The New York Times; CNN reported, "Russian officials bragged they could use Flynn to influence Trump"; and The Washington Post offered, "White House adviser is a person of interest in Russia probe".

Trump drilled in on every stop he made during the week on a trip that took him from Saudi Arabia to Israel and the West Bank, the Vatican, Brussels and, finally, Italy.

"The president does not like having large trade deficits", top economic adviser Gary Cohn said at a news conference at the close of the summit.

According to those who are on the scene in Sicily, this address is very much set up like a Donald Trump campaign rally, complete with the theme from Air Force One playing as it did during the campaign, according to The Associated Press' Jonathan Lemire.

"Just returned from Europe", the president tweeted.

'It has been a great trip and many strides have been made, ' Trump said in the speech.

The President said he was more confident than ever that the will existed for nations to work together against the terrorists that launched recent attacks in Manchester, England, and in Egypt.

Trump then moved on to Brussels for a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit, saying he got a commitment from allies to increase their defense spending, and the alliance itself committed to joining the coalition against terror. The Times, on one hand, believed that Trump's was "out of step" with his fellow leaders and, on the same day, Trump took to Twitter to state that he did not come to decision on whether the USA would remain in the Paris climate agreement.

That revelation will still be fresh in the minds of Trump's G7 counterparts as they seek to make Trump see the Russian threat in a more clear-eyed manner. Even as Trump deferred a decision on that point, he continued complaints that the United States is running trade deficits with European nations.

"It signed off on a nine day trip overseas, during which Melania won the hearts of many across the Middle East and Europe", the Mail reported.

The president's trip has largely gone off without a major misstep, with the administration touting the president's efforts to birth a new coalition to fight terrorism, while admonishing partners in an old alliance to pay their fair share.

The G-7 includes the U.S., Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom.

Kushner's multiple roles in Trump's campaign and his contacts with Russian officials adds a new, increasingly personal dynamic to the federal probe for Trump: touching not only a member of his senior White House staff for the first time since Flynn was sacked, but also a member of his family.
