N.Korea leader Kim supervises missile test of new guidance system

DPRK accuses US of provocation by sending B-1B bombers again to South Korea

This undated picture shows N Korean leader Kim Jong-Un (C) inspecting the test of a new weapon system.

Monday's launch was North's Korea's third ballistic missile launch since South Korean President Moon Jae-in was inaugurated on May 10.

US President Donald Trump tweeted that North Korea showed "great disrespect" for longtime ally China with the test.

South Korea's military earlier said the Scud-type missile traveled eastward for 450 km (280 miles).

While today's test was not timed because of recent North Korean actions, he said, North Korea is one of the reasons why the United States has the capability.

Last week, Marine Lt. Gen. Vincent Stewart, director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, said if North Korea's growing nuclear threat is not monitored and stopped, Kim would eventually succeed in fielding a nuclear-armed missile that could possibly reach the U.S. But Trump gave China credit for "trying hard" to rein in North Korea's military ambitions.

Abe in a televised address on Monday said, "As we agreed at the recent G7, the issue of North Korea is a top priority for the global community".

North Korea test fired a new missile in the early hours of Monday.

Following a joint drill carried out by South Korea and the United States on Monday, Pyongyang lashed out and accused the allies of preparing to drop a nuclear bomb over North Korea.

The simulated threat missile will be launched from the Marshall Islands. "We always assume that with a testing program they get better with each test", Defense Secretary Jim Mattis told CBS News on Sunday.

Pentagon spokesman Capt. Jeff Davis said North Korea was a factor in, but not the primary reason for the test.

He said China, the North's only major ally, has been increasingly using its influence over North Korea. The reclusive state rejects United Nations and unilateral sanctions by other states against its weapons program as an infringement of its right to self defence and says the program is necessary to counter U.S. aggression.North Korea has attempted seven missile tests in 2017, including two recent tests in one week alone, keeping the world on edge.

SEOUL-North Korean leader Kim Jong Un supervised the test of a new ballistic missile controlled by a precision guidance system and ordered the development of more powerful strategic weapons, the North's official KCNA news agency reported on Tuesday.

"Prime Minister Abe said dialogue for the sake of dialogue is meaningless and it is necessary now to put pressure on North Korea", a Japanese foreign ministry statement quoted him as saying.

The current tensions between North Korea and the US were increased on Monday when Kim Jong-un conducted yet another test of a ballistic missile.

Withdrawing the shield "brooks not a moment's delay as its deployment would make South Korea the first target of strike by neighbouring nuclear powers", it said. "We insist on a political resolution through peaceful means".
