Iran identifies terrorists involved in Tehran attacks

Police officers control the scene around of shrine of late Iranian revolutionary founder Ayatollah Khomeini after an assault by several attackers in Tehran just outside Tehran Iran Wednesday

"The five known terrorists. after joining the IS terrorist group, left the country and participated in crimes carried out by this terrorist group in Mosul and Raqqa", the ministry said.

So when the White House woke on Wednesday to images of a possible Islamic State attack on Tehran, it prompted a sharp quandary: How does President Trump condemn the violence without seeming to embrace the victims?

The statement released the names of terrorists as Abu Jahad, Ghayom, Fereidoun, Saryas and Ramin but to some social and security considerations their family names will not be revealed, APA reported citing IRNA.

He also said the attackers were armed with AK-47s and hand grenades and wore what appeared to be explosive vests.

A statement from Mr Trump condemned the attacks in Tehran and offered condolences, but also implied that Iran is itself a sponsor of terrorism.

US President Donald Trump sparked outrage in Iran on Wednesday after saying that "states that sponsor terrorism risk falling victim to the evil they promote".

That statement of solidarity with the victims was notable because of the deep distrust between the USA and Iran.

Mohammad Javad Zarif called the comments "repugnant" and accused the US of supporting terror. "Iranian people reject such USA claims of friendship".

Iran is now backing the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad against Sunni rebels and jihadi groups in the war-torn country.

Iranians will likely "view this as an attempt to test and weaken Iran, to show that they are vulnerable inside their borders", Handjani said.

Tasmin news agency said there were unconfirmed reports that the attackers had taken four hostages inside the parliament building.

Suicide bombers and gunmen engaged in twin attacks on Iran's parliament and the Mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini in Tehran.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei underlined on Wednesday that Iran will keep moving forward and the terrorist attacks will only result in stronger determination among Iranian nation. As part of the July 2015 multinational accord, Iran also regained access to frozen assets held overseas.

Intelligence Minister Alavi said that the terror threats had intensified against the country in the last month and few days during they arrested groups of two, three or individuals every week.

Police on Thursday said they now held six suspects as part of their investigation into the attacks.

Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates cut ties with Qatar this week and has blocked several of the country's media outlets. At least 11 people were killed, and one of the attackers blew himself up inside the complex, according to state television. He did not elaborate.
