Three US troops killed after Afghan soldier opened fire

At least three Afghan policemen were killed and two wounded when an American military aircraft opened fire during an operation in southern Afghanistan, officials said on Saturday.

According to the spokesman Attahullah Khogyani of the Nangarhar province governor, where the incident occurred, the U.S. servicemen were killed by a soldier of the Afghanistan armed forces.

Afghan officials said that a USA airstrike on a border outpost in southern Helmand province killed two border police officers and wounded six others late Friday or early Saturday.

In March, three U.S. soldiers were wounded after being shot at by an Afghan soldier at a base in Helmand province.

Afghan officials said Saturday two USA soldiers appeared to have been killed with an additional two wounded. One of those wounded later died of injuries sustained in the attack. The Afghan special forces units have quickly become the most reliable force in the more than 15-year-old war, American officials believe. "And our thoughts and prayers are with the families of these American heroes".

One US official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the incident was a "green-on-blue" attack by a member of the Afghan security forces.

So-called "green-on-blue" attacks - when Afghan soldiers or police turn their guns on global troops - have been a major problem during NATO's long years fighting alongside Afghan forces.

The Trump administration is considering sending more troops to the country.

The three previous US soldiers' deaths in Achin make up the entirety of USA combat fatalities in Afghanistan in 2017.

The Trump administration is in the middle of a review of the overall US strategy in Afghanistan. ISIS is believed to be behind a series of terror attacks, including the recent deadly attack on a hospital in Kabul.

The incident occurred during a joint U.S.

It is not the first time that a local solider has fired on its worldwide partners in what is known as a "green-on-blue" shooting.

An Afghan soldier killed three United States contractors and wounded another in an attack at Kabul International Airport. A Taliban spokesman claimedthe shooter was an infiltrator for the militant group. ABC News also reports that there are now 8,400 American troops still in Afghanistan training Afghan forces and helping them in military operations.
