Next Transformers Movie Could Be Set In Ancient Rome

"Transformers: The Last Knight" from Paramount and Hasbro is projected to earn $196.2 million by Sunday from 41 worldwide markets. Granted, these characters aren't almost as annoying as the Witwicky's were in the first couple films but still, a movie that's called Transformers focuses too much time away from the Transformers, even Optimus Prime is barely in the movie and he's all over the posters. "Transformers: The Last Knight" was directed by Michael Bay and stars Mark Wahlberg, Anthony Hopkins, Laura Haddock, and Josh Duhamel. The key to saving the future lies buried in the secrets of the past and the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Despite the lackluster performances in the United States, two of the "Transformers" films have garnered more than $1 billion in total global ticket sales.

And critics, who have never been kind to Bay or the franchise, really dug into "The Last Knight", as the movie only got a 15% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Please let this be the last one, if it isn't the last one hopefully it's Michael Bay's last, let a director who actually cares about the source material have a crack. Not only did it waste yet another minute of the audience's time, but it also realized everyone's worst fear-there will nearly definitely be another film, and it will probably be just as bad, if not worse. It will now be up to newly installed Paramount chairman-CEO Jim Gianopulos to decide the fate of any further chapters beyond the spinoff.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros Pictures' Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot continues to do fantastic at the box office.

Wonder Woman and Cars 3 tied for second place, both with 25.2 million United States dollars (£19.6 million). We considered the highest gross revenue figures adjusted to 2017 dollars for the 186 franchises with data from Box Office Mojo.

For comparison, the film garnered $245 million total in the US, less than the opening weekend gross of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens". It fell 53 percent domestically, a relatively steep decline for an animated event film. The low previously belonged to the 2007 original, which earned $70.5 million in its first Friday-Sunday weekend.

Indie shark movie 47 Meters Down placed No. 4 with $7.4 million, while All Eyez on Me and The Mummy were in a close race for the No. 5 spot with roughly $5.8 million each.

In limited release Kumail Nanjiani's acclaimed romantic comedy "The Big Sick" landed the best per-screen average of the year. Focus Features' The Beguiled remake also opened strong with $240,545 from four theaters for a $60,136, Vertical Entertainment's Alien Arrival, which will debut alongside Neon's The Bad Batch, Indican's A Beginner's Guide to Snuff, while Neon's The Bad Batch opened with $91,074 from 30 theaters for a middling $3,036 per-screen average and the Abramorama documentary Food Evolution earned $3,311 from one theater.
