All Blacks down Wallabies in Championship

Jerome Kaino sent home in disgrace as All-Blacks are hit by another sex scandal that damages reputation as icons of rugby

Commentating on Saturday night's Bledisloe Cup opener for Sky Sports in Britain, Lynagh pulled no punches after the Wallabies slumped to a humiliating 54-34 loss at Sydney's ANZ Stadium.

With the All Blacks foot firmly off the gas, Israel Folau then added a fourth unanswered try, adjudged to not have knocked on after the ball flicked the thigh of Kuridrani.

Consolation: Kurtley Beale scores on his return to the Australian team.

However, things were very different in the final half-hour, Australia restoring a measure of pride with four tries of their own as New Zealand's level dipped.

It was more of the same after the restart with fullback McKenzie, playing his third test, getting reward for his thrilling running and winger Ben Smith giving the All Blacks a 54-6 lead after 48 minutes.

"I'm not going to respond about not being up to standard defensively".

Meanwhile, after one of the most tumultuous weeks for New Zealand rugby in recent memory, the All Blacks were able to push to one side the off-field scandals and execute a game plan that completely blew the Wallabies off the park.

The world champions have been enshrouded in off-the-field controversies this week, with NZR re-opening an investigation into scrumhalf Aaron Smith's tryst with a woman, who was not his partner, in a toilet at Christchurch Airport past year.

Coach Steve Hansen's mind, however, would have been in two places hours before kick-off after it emerged New Zealand's team manager Darren Shand told police he believed Cheika was responsible for bugging the team's hotel past year.

While the Australians looked promising in attack they were clueless in defence with the world champions looking capable of scoring in every attacking phase.

The All Blacks were up 26-6 after just 26 minutes, after tries to Rieko Ioane (two), Liam Squire and Ryan Crotty.

But like they do so often, the All Blacks capitalised on a mistake from their opposition.

A statement issued by NZ Rugby said the married father of three - who was not in the 23-strong squad named for the test - had returned home to deal with a "personal matter".

"Any time you can put that number of points and score tries like that against any worldwide team, it feels pretty good", said Read.

"Australia had a month together to try and create stuff. and they come up with that in the first half".

As Australia began to get their ship in order, Sonny Bill-Williams then went over the whitewash five minutes from the break, to score his first try versus Australia.

Attack-wise, there were things to like.

As the benches emptied, Rona and Kuridrani's tries provided a measure of relief for the home fans, while Beale picked up a loose ball to score from distance.

The 34 points the Wallabies racked up was actually the second-most against the All Blacks.
