Iran is in compliance with nuclear deal: United Nations monitors

Iran rejects US demand for inspection of its military sites

Last week Haley said the USA wants inspections of Iranian military and non-military sites to determine its compliance with the landmark 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers.

Iran has slightly breached its heavy water limit on two occasions before quickly shipping some amounts to Oman to get below the threshold, Reuters reported.

Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the agency, Reza Najafi, said the IAEA's report demonstrated, among other things, that the "US official's rhetoric and media hype has not impacted its verifications activities and reporting on the case", IRNA says.

The IAEA is expected to soon release its quarterly report on Iranian compliance with the deal. "And I do not expect that they will be compliant".

United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley speaks at the UN Security Council on August 29, 2017 at UN Headquarters in NY. But for this to happen, United Nations inspectors must believe such checks are necessary and so far they do not, officials say. Iran dismissed the call as "merely a dream".

The U.S. has isolated itself from other signatories in its search for reasons to declare Iran to be noncompliant.

Haley had reportedly abstained from presenting any evidence to justify such inspections at her meeting with the IAEA in Vienna, the statement added. "We just don't want to give them an excuse to".

The IAEA director, Yukiya Amano, told the Associated Press that the agency has access to all locations "without making distinctions between military and civilian locations".

The report was the third since the inauguration of US President Donald Trump, who has called the agreement between six major powers and Iran, reached under predecessor Barack Obama, "the worst deal ever negotiated" and voiced suspicions Tehran is not fully complying with its terms.

"We're not going to visit a military site like Parchin just to send a political signal", an IAEA official said, referring to the fact that United States officials haven't filed an official request despite making public comments about it. The administration, including Trump, has repeatedly threatened to pull out of the accord.

A USA pullout could effectively kill the agreement, and lead Iran to quickly ramp up programs that could be used to make weapons. Rouhani also pointed out that Washington has proved to be an "unreliable negotiator, " while the U.S. under Trump's leadership simply "ignored global agreements". Trump has been a vocal opponent of the deal, which he and his conservative supporters criticize as being too soft on Iran.

As well as the United States the hard-fought agreement also includes China, Russia, Britain, France and Germany. Since sanctions began to roll back, Iran has made multibillion-dollar deals with a number of foreign companies previously barred from doing business with the country.
