Senate Republicans Stepping Up Efforts to Repeal and Replace ObamaCare

Very Bad News For Republicans As John Mc Cain Smacks Down New Effort To Repeal Obamacare

But the new Cassidy-Graham bill, the latest Republican effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA), will come with an extra dose of drama and intrigue. Right now we have Democrats and an independent in the U.S. Senate that are working to pass a Medicare for all piece of legislation that would give healthcare insurance, healthcare coverage or at least healthcare coverage access to everybody in this country.

Graham painted the plan as the antithesis of the single-payer health care bill unveiled by Sen. But it is still a long shot.

Protects patients with pre-existing medical conditions.

Already, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., has said he will not vote for the measure because it leaves too much of the Affordable Care Act in place. After that, it will take 60 votes to pass the bill, because the Senate's filibuster rule will go into effect. Obamacare was rammed through with Democrats' votes only. "That's not the way to do it". "It's either this or we're going to Obamacare and Berniecare".

For the time being, all McMaster would say is he continues to "study" the proposal.

Republicans who've not yet lined up behind the bill include Alaska's Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins of Maine, Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, John McCain of Arizona and Ohio's Rob Portman. The CBPP report showed that Graham-Cassidy would reduce federal funding for health coverage in both ME and Alaska and cut Medicaid overall.

The House passed a repeal bill in early May, by a vote of 217-213. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), would repeal the individual and employer mandate as well as a number of the taxes established under the ACA.

McConnell is pressing the Congressional Budget Office for a quick analysis of the Graham-Cassidy bill. It concedes that the federal government is responsible for providing massive health care subsidies to the states. The allotments total $1.2 trillion over the seven years. Bill Cassidy (R., La.) and would replace Obamacare's top-down federal structure and replace it with block grants to states.

In addition, the Graham-Cassidy bill would make deep cuts in Medicaid. The state's Medicaid plan now gets about $8.5 billion a year in federal funding, according to its July report to the Legislature. It is hard for any state to be sure how much it would receive. Graham said they could have as many as 48 votes if the vote were held now. "That is frankly not fair".

"We're crunching those numbers", he said. By 2026, the per-beneficiary amount for each state would be within 10 percent of the national average. "Inaction is not an option, and I sincerely hope that Senators Graham and Cassidy have found a way to address the Obamacare crisis". "I urge the Senate Republicans to stop undermining our economy and health care system and instead to work together in a transparent and bipartisan manner to fix the existing issues with the ACA". This is an important decision for the people of this state.

Cassidy played down that concern. Perhaps he's really itching for the flexibility to get rid of some Medicaid enrollees: In a Medicaid waiver application filed during the latter days of the Obama administration, Ducey asked for a five-year lifetime limit on Medicaid benefits for able-bodied adults; that idea was rejected.

FreedomWorks also gave the bill a partial endorsement.

The House is unlikely to accept the bill in its current form.

What happens if these Republican senators fail?

The bill is still on the Senate calendar. Instead these funds would be block granted to states.
