South Korea claims North hacked nuclear attack response plans

Military Says Has Technology to Make Blackout Bombs

The U.S. flew the two B-1B Lancer bombers over the peninsula along with South Korean F-15k fighter planes and additional fighters from Japan, which the U.S. military said was the first such nighttime maneuver conducted by the three countries together.

The U.S. Air Force bombers and the South Korean fighters then conducted a second firing exercise over the Yellow Sea, according to the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff.

A South Korean lawmaker says North Korean hackers stole highly classified military documents that include U.S.

This comes after US President Donald Trump last night discussed a "range of options" with his national security team to respond to North Korea's recent nuclear tests.

Private electric companies in the United States were targeted by suspected North Korean hackers last month.

Suspicions that Pyongyang may have stolen intel from South Korea will do nothing to de-escalate tensions with the USA, which are already at a 50-year high following the North's rocket tests.

Rep. Lee Cheol-hee, a lawmaker for the ruling Democratic Party who sits on the National Defense Committee, said defense sources told him that North Korean hackers previous year stole the classified U.S.

The drills were conducted not long after Lee broke the news about the alleged cyberattacks to reporters.

President Trump hosted a discussion on options to respond to any North Korean aggression, or, if necessary, to prevent Pyongyang from threatening the United States and its allies with nuclear weapons, the White House said in a statement.

A pre-emptive strike against Pyongyang's leadership would be hard to undertake, but it's widely seen as the most realistic of the limited military options Seoul has to deny a nuclear attack from its rival.

North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un inspects a military site in North Korea in this undated picture released by state media. Kim is the third generation of his family to rule North Korea. He revealed that around 235 gigabytes of military documents had been stolen from the Defence Integrated Data Centre, and that 80% of them have yet to be identified.

While US Secretary of Defense James Mattis reiterated this week that diplomacy along with worldwide economic sanctions would remain the leading element of US strategy towards blunting North Korea, military options were being prepared.

It would mark the first such talks since the U.S.

North Korea has yet to comment on either the bombing drills or the hacking claims.
