Robert Mueller has enough evidence to charge Michael Flynn and son

NBC News: Mueller has enough to bring charges in Flynn investigation

A spokesman for the Special Counsel's Office declined Bustle's request for comment.

Flynn was sacked after jut 24 days in his post and was one of the first and highest profile individuals to come under scrutiny from various investigations looking into dealings with Russian Federation.

The NBC report provides more evidence that Mueller's team is working at a quick pace, as it's been just under a week since investigators unsealed the indictments of President Trump's former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his deputy Rick Gates.

If Flynn is charged, he would be the first individual to have worked for the Trump presidency accused of wrongdoing.

Mueller's team is also examining whether Flynn attempted to orchestrate the removal of a chief rival of Turkish President Recep Erdogan from the U.S.to Turkey in exchange for millions of dollars, two officials said.

White House officials have previously stressed that those charged to date were campaign officials who were not brought into government by Mr Trump.

NBC reported that federal investigators will speak to several witnesses over the next few days looking at the elder Flynn's lobbying efforts, whether he laundered money and whether he lied to investigators. "I've seen documentation, classified and not, of Michael Flynn's activities and charges from Mueller wouldn't remotely surprise me, but we're still talking about someone who had access to our nation's vital secrets while working in the White House". It also means they are one step closer to President Trump. Both are facing a 12-count indictment for conspiracy against the United States, laundering money, and acting as an unregistered agent of a foreign principal. The retired army lieutenant general was sacked in February after less than a month on the job after it was revealed he had lied to Vice President Mike Pence about the extent of his dealings and communications with Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak.

Flynn worked on the campaign and his son worked closely with him and briefly worked on the Trump campaign's transition.

The investigation also led to charges against Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos, who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI.
