Google will consider load times in mobile search rankings

Google Will Again Prioritize Faster Sites in Mobile Search

If you do a Google search on your smartphone, pages that take forever to load might not show up anywhere near the top of the results. The company has been using its enormous clout in the search space to get website owners to optimize their pages for mobile use in a variety of ways. Prior to the move, speed as a factor in search ranking was only a signal focused on Google's desktop searches.

Correct, no changes to announce for desktop.

Set to start in July, the Speed Update will only impact a small amount of the slowest pages, the company said.

Speed is just one of many signals that are used to rank pages.

Chrome User Experience Report, a public dataset of key user experience metrics for popular destinations on the web, as experienced by Chrome users under real-world conditions.

This will affect a small percentage of queries.

Advertisers and agencies have six months to optimise digital assets for mobile-based search, with existing issues identified by the updated PageSpeed Insights tool. Shockingly, people aren't too happy with Google's current approach towards providing users with a faster mobile web. The search giant attributed the change to its users caring about the speed of a webpage.

The update will apply the same speed criteria to all pages, regardless of the technology used to build them, our sister site ZDNet said. Certainly, there will be times when slow-loading pages will still rank high - probably when they contain the most relevant content a user search for, for instance.
