The Surge 2 Announced with 2019 Release Date

The Surge 2

The Surge, a Dark Souls-inspired science fiction brawler, is getting a sequel.

In a press release sent out earlier today, The Surge 2 was announced with a 2019 release window for both PC and consoles. Focus Interactive and developer Deck 13 have announced a renewal of their partnership, as well as a target release date for the upcoming sequel.

What has been shared about The Surge 2 is words from Focus Home Interactive that the game will flaunt new mechanics. The second instalment will also be packed with hardcore combat, the limb targeting system, character progression, and more as Deck13 expands on the formula. Whereas the original game had a more narrow focus on its setting, this new title will apparently include "a sprawling, devastated city with larger and more ambitious level design". Add this to the promise of more abilities, weapons, implants, drones, customisation options and I'm pretty excited-despite the fact we've nothing else to go on beyond the header image above. With robotic or mechanically-enhanced combatants, the idea of targeting specific limbs and upgrading your shell set the game apart from similar games placed in a medieval/Victorian fantasy setting.

It debuted in May 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and while it made a brief blip on the radar, the community was largely quiet about it throughout the rest of the year.

There's more information on the game that will be coming very soon, as Focus Home Interactive will be hosting an event in Paris from February 7th to 8th called "Le What's Next de Focus".
