Jared Kushner Met Private Equity Firms In White House, Got Massive Loans

Jared Kushner

Mr Jared Kushner, United States President Donald Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser, has been stripped of his top-secret security clearance after months of delays in completing his background check, a White House official and another person familiar with the situation said on Tuesday.

According to the report, Joshua Harris, the founder of Apollo Management - whose loan refinanced the mortgage on Kushner's Chicago skyscraper - who was advising Trump administration on infrastructure policy, also met with Jared Kushner a year ago.

Even by the standards of Apollo, one of the world's largest private equity firms, the previously unreported transaction with the Kushners was a big deal: It was triple the size of the average property loan made by Apollo's real estate lending arm, securities filings show.

The money was loaned to the Kushner group in the spring of 2017, shortly after Corbat met with Kushner at the White House.

According to the Washington Post, officials from at least four countries have "privately discussed ways they can manipulate Jared Kushner". "These type of inquiries appear to be harassment exclusively for political reasons".

Earlier this month, Bloomberg LP reported both the IRS and U.S. Department of Justice subpoenaed lenders and investors involved with Kushner family properties in NY and New Jersey, some dating back as far as 2010.

Kushner has been forced to repeatedly correct omissions in his "SF-86", the government-wide form used to apply for clearances, as well as his financial disclosure forms, which experts said could delay or even end his chances of earning a clearance through the normal process.

Kushner met multiple times with Apollo Global Management chief Joshua Harris.

Abbe Lowell, Kushner's attorney, said in a statement that the delay is not uncommon.

The spokesman said Kushner's met with hundreds of business people since joining the White House but has not participated in any projects related to his family enterprise and follows good government policies and procedures, The Times said.

If DFS finds the loans somehow violate banking law, it could fine the banks or take other corrective action with regard to their business practices, said NY attorney Daniel Alter, former general counsel at DFS.

Apollo defended its move in extending the loan to Kushner to the New York Times. "Stories like these attempt to make insinuating connections that do not exist to disparage the financial institutions and companies involved", spokeswoman Christine Taylor said.

But Trump's daughter Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner, seem to have a different arrangement in mind.

According to reports, Mueller has been looking into the financial dealings of a number of Trump family members, including Kushner.

This blurring of lines is a potential liability for Kushner, who recently lost his top-secret security clearance amid worries from some US officials that foreign governments might try to gain influence with the White House by doing business with Kushner.
