Facebook said it won't separate the News Feed after all

Facebook drops newsfeed experiment after it promoted fake news

Your news feed won't be splitting up after all.

KitGuru Says: While the KitGuru Facebook page is "verified", we find that many of our posts will go out to less than 1% of our followers at times, which can be frustrating, as it means many of our readers often miss important posts. This allows Facebook to serve more ads in between the content, in videos and elsewhere.

In a statement to the Guardian, Facebook said: "People have told us they want an easier way to see posts from friends and family, so we are testing two separate feeds, one as a dedicated space with posts from friends and family and another as a dedicated space for posts from Pages". In a post on the Facebook newsroom, head of news feed, Adam Mosseri wrote that Facebook's increase of friends and family "better address the feedback we heard from people".

Fortunately, it would seem that most Facebook users happen to like seeing news updates in their feeds as well; and the company has reverted these countries to the same posts that the rest of the world sees. A Facebook representative did not immediately respond to a request for additional information.

Mosseri on Thursday also conceded that Facebook didn't explain the test well enough.

The site has been very public about the changes it's making to turn around its image, and we expect there'll be more announcements soon.

Facebook contends that the issue isn't inherently related to social media, but rather how people are using the platforms.

Facebook has made a decision to drop its controversial second news feed, after negative feedback from users in countries where it was trialed. It moved posts from businesses and non-governmental media organizations into a second feed, meaning the only way they could appear in the main feed was by paying to promote their content. This resulted in what Quartz reporters had alternatively described as a "less-enticing mirror image of my regular News Feed", "the absolute dredges of the internet", and " a distillation of the worst parts of Facebook".
