Lockdown at Utica College lifted, police continue to investigate threat

The upstate New York college was on lockdown for six hours after a threat

Utica College was put on lockdown Monday "due to a real, credible threat", campus officials tweeted. Utica College then went into a lockdown at 11:12 a.m.

'Law enforcement continues to investigate the threat, ' the school said.

The college sent messages on social media throughout the day asking students to shelter in place, saying they would be evacuated and escorted to a safe location.

Armed cops are on campus, after two phone calls were made warning of plans to "take some sort of action" at the school's Gordon Science Center.

Officials at an upstate NY college say a lockdown sparked by a telephone threat has ended after all buildings were searched and staff and students escorted to safe locations. Students who live on campus were escorted back to their dorms by law enforcement, while non-resident students, staff and faculty were allowed to leave campus. Again, the campus remains on lockdown.

There is no confirmation of any shots fired on campus, and there are no injuries reported.

The school is located about 50 miles from Syracuse and has roughly 3,500 students.

State police, the Oneida County Sheriff's Office and Utica City Police were dispatched to the campus. "Please stay where you are until directed by law enforcement", the school tweeted after 12 p.m. on Monday.
