Mark Zuckerberg ditches T-shirt, apologizes for Facebook mistakes

Despite the changes, Mr. Zuckerberg is still expected to face a grilling from members of Congress about his company's privacy policies, foreign political interference and Facebook's extraordinarily profitable ad-based business model, which involves collecting and analyzing personal information on users to help advertisers better target their audience.

Facebook Inc FB.O Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg met USA lawmakers individually on Monday and told Congress in written testimony that the social media network should have done more to prevent itself and its members' data being misused.

Facebook's press page was once filled with announcements about new features to order food and connect to friends in virtual reality.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has acknowledged the failing of the social network company, issuing an apology in a statement.

Top of the agenda in the forthcoming hearings will be Facebook's admission that the personal information of up to 87 million users, mostly in the United States, may have been improperly shared with political consultancy Cambridge Analytica.

The website's 33-year-old founder will appear at a joint hearing before the Senate Judiciary and Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation on Tuesday at 2:15 p.m.

Zuckerberg faced growing calls to appear before the US government in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica data misuse scandal, in which the personal information of an estimated 87 million users was allegedly exploited for targeted political profiling by a UK-based company claiming to have the power to influence elections.

Facebook claimed it has made real progress since Brexit and the 2016 U.S. presidential election in fighting fake news, as well as combating foreign interference, in elections in France, Germany, Alabama and Italy.

Mark Zuckerberg, are you listening? The company is now informing users if their data has been compromised in Cambridge Analytica breach or not.

Facebook was also forced to apologize after civil society groups in Myanmar criticized Zuckerberg's explanation in a recent interview of how the company handled hate speech in the country.

The move comes after Facebook and Cambridge Analytica (CA) submitted responses to the questions sent to them by the IT ministry.

The allegations tying Facebook to the illegal trafficking of wildlife are surfacing while the company is already scrambling to recover from a privacy scandal that has wiped out $79 billion in shareholder wealth during the past three weeks.

The flurry of activity highlights Facebook's rush to get its house in order before Zuckerberg's high-stakes debut testifying on Capitol Hill this week.

The transcript says Facebook "detected and dealt with" several threats with ties to Russia, including activity by a group called APT28, which the US government says has links to Russian military intelligence.

He will also likely face questions about ads and posts placed by Russian operatives, in what US authorities believe was an attempt to influence the USA 2016 election. Facebook also announced that it has banned another data analytics firm called CubeYou for improper handling of users' data that they received from personality quizzes.

Facebook has been in troubled waters ever since the Cambridge Analytica's data breach has been reported.

In a testimony released yesterday on the eve of his first Congressional appearance, Zuckerberg accepts responsibility for the social networks failure to protect private data of its 87 million users and prevent manipulation of the platform. Any research can then be shared with the public without Facebook's permission.

In the testimony, Zuckerberg acknowledges that the questioning will likely be critical.
