Hamilton hit by grid penalty in Bahrain

Lewis Hamilton admitted Ferrari were too quick for Mercedes in qualifying for the Bahrain GP

Sebastian Vettel leapt to the defence of Britain's Lewis Hamilton on Sunday when the latter faced questions over his post-race criticism of Max Verstappen's driving at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

The Times reports that the British driver is concerned that strategy and communication are costing him "valuable points" in his hunt for a fifth world title.

"There were frustrating points in the race so they [the pit wall] couldn't hear me so I had to pick particular moments to speak to them".

We've all been in that situation, we fight someone, we go sometimes wheel-to-wheel, it's close and you have a lot of adrenaline going, do you think comparing to football, if you have a microphone on a football player's mouth, that everything he says is something nice and is a nice message when the guy tackles him and maybe sometimes he fouls him or not.

" I was driving around in kind of no-man's land for some time, however that& 's just some thing we need to work on.

"So it's working out a rapport that works best. It's even more important that it's precise information".

Question: "Lewis, I believe, if my ears are correct, you used the word "d***head" after the race concerning Max Verstappen and the overtake and the contact".

The rivals went wheel-to-wheel in Bahrain on Sunday.

He finished third, but was lucky to come away unscathed from a coming-together with Red Bull's Max Verstappen - deemed a racing incident - that unfortunately ended Verstappen's race.

"With a two and three we have to be happy after yesterday", he told Sky Sports.

"It is interesting to hear Christian has said that because they have a auto which should be getting good results, but through inexperience, or not mature decisions, they are not", Hamilton said after the Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

Red Bull are fourth in the championship after two races, behind Renault-powered rivals McLaren, despite having a vehicle that looked in testing to be on a par with Ferrari - winners in Australia and Bahrain.

Sirotkin and Williams team-mate Lance Stroll finished 15th and 14th respectively in Bahrain after qualifying in 18th and 20th. "It will be a tough weekend". I moved when I was young so that I understand the way that it is. Probably the fact that I tried to find some positive in it will sound a bit weird, but I do see some positives. Ferrari looked strong, with Raikkonen and Vettel setting the pace as cooler temperatures and nightfall matched the conditions for today evening's race.
